Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Trail Paws ("we", "us", "our", or "the app") handles your information when you use our trail and hiking application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Information Stored on Your Device

All of the following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to external servers:

• Trail favorites — Trails you've marked as favorites
• Hike history — Completed hikes with distance, elevation, and duration
• Recorded routes — GPS tracks from routes you've recorded
• Planned routes — Routes generated by the trail planner
• App preferences — Your settings and filter choices
• Trail database — Cached trail data from Boulder OSMP

Location Data

Trail Paws uses your device's GPS for two features:

• Real-time tracking — During an active hike, GPS is used to show your position, calculate distance and pace, and provide off-course alerts
• "Near Me" search — To sort trails by distance from your current location

Your location data is processed entirely on your device. GPS coordinates are never transmitted to any server. Recorded route data is saved locally and can be deleted at any time.

Network Requests

The app makes network requests only for:

• Trail data updates — Periodic requests to the Boulder OSMP ArcGIS REST API to refresh trail segment and regulation data. These requests contain no personal information.

No other network requests are made. The app functions fully offline using bundled trail data.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect any personal information
• We do not use analytics or tracking services
• We do not display advertisements
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties
• We do not require or offer user accounts
• We do not transmit location data to any server

Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data. You can also delete individual hikes, recorded routes, and favorites within the app at any time.

Children's Privacy

The app does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no data collection of any kind.

Third-Party Services

The app integrates with:

• Boulder OSMP ArcGIS REST API — For trail data updates (public open data, no authentication required)
• Apple Maps (iOS) — For map display within the app, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
